The Port of Tilbury and the Environment Agency have started work on a £34 million new flood defence gate. It will safeguard thousands of homes and businesses in the area as well as provide a new navigation lock for operations at the busy port.
Construction is expected to last for 18 months with the new lock gates planned for installation in late 2021 or early 2022.
