Safety first in Tilbury

[ May 12, 2014   //   ]

Port of Tilbury safety representatives Kevin Barwick and Ian Hubbard have been awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) ‘Guardian Angel’ award, which recognise the work of individuals who have gone above and beyond to improve the safety of others.

A health and safety working group was set up at the Port of Tilbury in 2011 with the aim to invigorate the ports’ ‘Safety First’ campaign. They worked to engage those on the frontline of the operational environment, by giving the workforce greater ownership over health and safety initiatives, leading to a 25% reduction in accidents across the port in just 12 months.
