[ August 7, 2015 // Chris ]Chair of the House of Commons Transport Select Committee, Louise Ellman MP visited the Port of Liverpool on 7 August) to inspect progress at the £100m biomass terminal project. She met with senior representatives from Peel Ports and Drax Group on a tour of the new biomass terminal which will soon support the EU’s largest decarbonisation project at Drax Power Station.
The first phase of the new terminal will open in October when four trains a day begin carrying wood pellets, shipped into Liverpool from North America, to Drax in Yorkshire. Up to 10 train loads of pellets will travel to the power station every day in custom-made biomass rail wagons once the terminal is fully completed in 2016.
