Port firms win rail award – updated

[ September 9, 2015   //   ]

Associated British Ports (ABP) was named the Rail Freight Group’s business of the year at the Awards Dinner held at the Shendish Manor Hotel, Hertfordshire on 8 September.
ABP won the award for its work on the Immingham Renewables Fuel Terminal Project, part of a £130m investment to evolve an automated biomass cargo handling facility designed to handle more than six million tonnes of material each year. Judges were particularly impressed by recent developments and said the freight-loading facility was leading the way on cargo load per wagon.
Derrick Potter of Potter Logistics was presented with the RFG’s lifetime achievement award, recognising his huge contribution to the rail freight sector as he retires and also steps down as an RFG Board member.
The Port of Felixstowe won the Customer Care Award for its continued and sustained improvement in customer service. In 2014 the prolonged Ipswich Yard track lengthening works caused extended and unexpected disruption. The award recognised the port’s response to the overrunning works by providing flexible and additional resources, which included enabling locomotives to refuel on port and responding to the daily changing demand of its customers the port managed to avert severe disruption to freight on the network. The amount of freight volume moved through the network did not suffer materially.
