Three quarters of Delta cargo moves on e-AWBs

Delta Cargo said on 15 October that 77% of all its freight shipped now used e-air waybills (e-AWB), well well ahead of IATA’s industry goal of 45 percent.
The carrier adopted the single process e-AWB last year, transmitting electronic data for all shipments and eliminating the need for customers to keep track of cumbersome eight-page contracts.
Prior to e-AWBs, Delta Cargo averaged more than 37,000 paper contracts per month but by September had reduced paper contract usage to 14,700, saving an estimated 1,500 trees per year.
Delta’s goal is to be co, Sharon Poindexter, Dpletely digital in the long-term, said director of strategic innovation and technology. She said: “Our goal is to become paperless, leveraging key aspects of the passenger model processes – for example, self-service, online booking, reliability, cargo traceability.”
