Handler dedicates new Heathrow building to Cathay Pacific
[ April 14, 2016 // Chris ]Middle East-owned handling firm dnata UK has opened an on-airport cargo facility at London Heathrow’s Building 521a, dedicated to Cathay Pacific. According to dnata, it ends months of industry speculation as to who would tenant the prime piece of real estate at the UK’s biggest airport. It is promising a high-spec customised handling facility to meet the Hong Kong carrier’s specific requirements when it opens on 19 April.
It has invested £40 million in the 63,600sq ft warehouse and office facility next to the existing dnata City complex. It has also implemented its vehicle control centre at the facility, already operational at dnata City. Further enhancements will be full e-airway bill processing including receiving advance data information.
Cathay Pacific’s move to Building 521a also paves the way for dnata to up-spec the airline’s current South Point facility at dnata City.
On 1 January, Cathay Pacific awarded dnata its cargo handling contract for Manchester Airport and UK regional airports, including inter-airport trucking throughout the UK and Ireland, triggering an investment in an additional 29,674sq ft facility located near the handler’s current 55,159sq ft Manchester operation, Building 300.
London Heathrow’s Building 521a will also handle Cathay Pacific cargo destined to or arriving from London Gatwick.
