New system offers savings en bloc

[ November 1, 2016   //   ]

UK-based Blok Beam says its new empty container handling system, due to be in Shanghai at the end of November, could ease port congestion. A pair of steel beams connect the six empty containers together to form a single block, which can be lifted as one unit – modern container cranes have the capacity to do this, says the company. Blok-Beam managing director John Evans estimates that if a third of empty moves of containers are handled by the system, the industry would save over US$2 billion per year.
