Trade experts see brighter outlook
[ February 14, 2017 // Chris ]The World Trade Organisation says that its latest Outlook Indicator (WTOI) suggests that global trade growth will continue to grow moderately in the first quarter of 2017 after strengthening in the final quarter of 2016. The indicator is based on a number of components, including air freight, container shipping, export orders and car sales,, all of which have registered solid gains in recent months, it says, auguring for faster growth in merchandise trade in the first few months of the year. Data on international freight tonne kilometres from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have risen sharply as European air carriers posted strong growth. Container port throughput of major ports has also largely recovered from its recent slump.
