KN spreads its perishables net worldwide
[ July 18, 2017 // Chris ]Kuehne + Nagel has expanded its perishables logistics activities by acquiring US-based airfreight specialist CFI, Commodity Forwarders and Trillvane one of the largest perishables operators in Kenya, both for undisclosed suims.
The Swiss-based forwarder said the purchases would add more than 150,000 tons of perishables traffic a year.
CFI operates 14 locations throughout the US including Alaska and Hawaii with more than 700 employees, specialising in airfreight export and import as well as distribution of seafood, all kinds of agricultural products, flowers and greens.
Trillvane has 130 employees and deals mainly in the export of flowers and vegetables from Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi.
Yngve Ruud, board member for airfreight logistics, said: “The business potential in the steadily growing global perishable sector is huge. Based on our dedicated network – by now the largest in the logistics industry for perishables – and globally integrated IT systems we can scale business opportunities and accelerate our growth in this sector with end-to-end transparency.”
He said that the CFI purchase would make Kuehne + Nagel the number two airfreight forwarder in the US and the acquisition of Trillvane would confirm its leading position in Kenya.”
