UKWA puts excise thoughts on paper

The UK Warehousing Association (UKWA) has published a ‘Positioning Paper’ on how the supply chain sector can work with Customs (HMRC) to ensure that post-Brexit excise legislation does not place an unfair burden on legitimate logistics companies and to keep them competitive.

UKWA’s chief executive officer, Peter Ward, said it was important to co-operate openly and constructively with the policy makers and regulators, adding: “We will present our Positioning Paper to HMRC and the policy makers to help the government understand how the excise supply chain industry works and the impacts that any post-Brexit legislation will have on the sector.”

He added that it was an example of where Brexit provides an opportunity to review existing practices and legislation.

Many of UKWA’s 700 members provide logistics services for excise goods such as alcohol and tobacco.
