Over the Andes

[ September 15, 2017   //   ]

Forwarder Geodis is moving 400 heavy loads for Siemens from three different continents to Bolivia for a power station contract. It involves transits through the Panama Canal and over the Andes mountains in extreme weather conditions and at altitudes of up to 4,680 meters.

The first two turbines, from Sweden, were loaded in April on a heavy-lift ship at Norrköping for the voyage to Arica in Chile.

After discharge in Arica, the equipment is transported by road to Bolivia, over 1,800km to destination. In total, Geodis will manage 94 heavy lifts of up to 160 tons each by the time the project is completed in April 2019.
