Maersk cuts Asia port calls to boost reliability

[ March 20, 2018   //   ]

Maersk Line has made changes to its Asia/Europe services which it ways will improve reliability and stability. Head of Europe trade Johan Sigsgaard said there would be longer buffers in schedules to deal with port congestion and weather conditions.

“Forced port omissions disrupt cargo flows and impact our customers’ supply chains. This network is designed to reduce the necessity to omit ports”, he said.

Reliability will also be enhanced by reducing the amount of duplicate port calls and allocating more buffer time around hub ports. Overall on North European and Mediterranean strings, there will be a reduction of 17 port calls, but with an additional vessel added to the network.

First Westbound sailings on the revised schedule will be in May.

Felixstowe is now Maersk’s sole UK. The port is served as first European call by the AE1 service from the Far East and by AE2, AE6 and AE7 westbound and eastbound.
