Gove ponders live animal export ban
[ April 10, 2018 // Chris ]Environment Secretary Michael Gove launched a call for evidence on 10 April for a possible post-Brexit ban on the export of live animals for slaughter.
He is seeking views from industry, devolved authorities, charities and the general public on how the government might raise standards of animal welfare during transport after the UK leaves the EU.
Animal rights protestors have launched protests against the movement of live animals, which have been concentrated on the port of Ramsgate.
The Farm Animal Welfare Committee has also launched a review into existing welfare standards for animals during transport.
