Merchant ships to the rescue

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines containership MOL Summer rescued 116 survivors from the ferry Rabaul Queen, which sank about 17km east of Papua New Guinea on 2 February. She and eight other merchant vessels near the scene rescued a total of 246 people. Associated Press said on 3 February however that over 110 people remained missing.
