Stena’s new ship takes to the water
[ January 18, 2019 // Chris ]Stena Line has launched the first of its next generation of ro pax ferries at the Avic Weihai Shipyard in China. The Stena Estrid is on schedule to enter service on the Dublin to Holyhead route in early 2020, the first of three new E-Flexer vessels bound for the Irish Sea by 2021.
The three ferries will each have a freight capacity of 3,100 lane meters plus space for 120 cars and 1,000 passengers.
In addition to the three Irish Sea bound E-Flexer vessels, Stena Line has also ordered a further two larger E-Flexer RoPax vessels with a freight capacity of 3,600 lane meters, to be deployed on the network in 2022.
STENA E-FLEXER: How Stena Lines new E-Flexer ships will look when they commence operations on the companys Irish Sea routes during 2020 and 2021. Three new E-Flexer ships will be deployed on the Irish Sea, all of which are now under construction and on schedule at the Avic Weihai Shipyard in China. The first of the new vessels will be introduced on the Holyhead to Dublin route in early 2020, with the remaining two ships to be deployed on the Liverpool to Belfast route in 2020 and 2021. All three Irish Sea E-Flexer vessels will be bigger than todays standard RoPax vessels at 215 meters long with a freight capacity of 3,100 lane meters and the space to carry 120 cars and 1,000 passengers.
