ABC and United to lease SkyCell pharma boxes
[ June 21, 2019 // Chris ]AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) has signed a deal to lease temperature-controlled pharma containers from Swiss-based SkyCell. The SkyCell line of passive containers is capable of keeping the internal temperature within the range of +2° to +8°C and +15°C to +25°C under external temperature excursions from –35°C to +65°C.
Each container is equipped with sensors that connect to SkyCell’s cloud-based, blockchain-encrypted software to monitor temperature, humidity and other factors to protect against excursions. A SkyCell Transport Planner also carries out risk analysis for each trade lane.
SkyCell chief executive Richard Ettl said: “ABC has one of the most modern airline fleets and, like SkyCell, is committed to greater transparency in the industry. Together we strive to make pharmaceutical logistics safer, more reliable and more sustainable.”
ABC’s deputy general director, products, Fedor Novikov, added: “With SkyCell containers we have increased the total number of cold-chain special packaging solutions partners aiming at embracing all leading manufacturers to cater to the needs of different customers. On top of this, it fosters an extra piece of mind for our customers to have real-time data in one click.”
Meanwhile, United Cargo said it had become the first US carrier to lease SkyCell containers. It said that a recent year-long external audit found temperature excursions in just 0.01% of shipments transported in SkyCell’s containers.
