Irish premier calls for Scotland-Ireland bridge study
[ January 2, 2020 // Chris ]Irish premier Leo Varadkar has called for an engineering assessment into whether a bridge between Northern Ireland and Scotland would be viable. The issue came up at a meeting between the Taoiseach and Boris Johnson who described it as a “very interesting idea”.
According to the BBC, the two leaders could not agree on whether the UK, Ireland or the EU would fund the scheme, which is likely to be at least £15 billion for the bridge alone, without factoring in the cost of new road and rail links either side of the new link. between Portpatrick and Larne, or from the Mull of Kintyre to the Antrim coast.
