Davies Turner back on track from China

Davies Turner’s regular weekly rail import service from China to the UK will re-start in mid-March following a prolonged Chinese New Year holiday break due to the corona virus. However, with Wuhan still under lockdown and the re-opening of factories there recently postponed until 11 March, the rail service will now depart from the Xi’an rail hub, directly into Duisburg, Germany.

Head of supply chain services Tony Cole said that in keeping with normal practice, the forwarder’s Express China Rail Service did not operate during the holiday break and its suspension has been further extended due to the outbreak.

Containers will be trucked under bond Rotterdam and by ferry to Purfleet for on-carriage to Davies Turner’s Dartford distribution centre where they will be discharged, customs cleared and delivered.”

From 13 March, Davies Turner plans initially to offer a single weekly departure, but this could rise to twice-weekly departures, depending on demand. Transit time between Xi’an and Duisburg is approximately 18 days.
