Keep post in the air, urges IATA
[ May 5, 2020 // Chris ]IATA and the Universal Postal Union (UPU) are warning that air capacity for mail is insufficient and urged governments to do more to support it during the COVID-19 crisis.
With the drastic 95% reduction in passenger flights, which are typically used to transport mail, and a 25-30% increase in demand for e-commerce, postal administrations are facing a challenge in sending and delivering international mail, in particular, cross-continent traffic.
IATA and UPU are calling on governments to remove border blockages, avoidg unnecessary regulations and fast track permits for chartered operations. Ensuring adequately trained staff are available to process and clear the mail upon arrival is also essential.
