New standards for seatrade

[ May 15, 2020   //   ]

The World Customs Organisation (WCO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) have signed a partnership recently to improve exchange of information for maritime trade.

They have created a set of standards on the submission of maritime related data to enable coordination between customs and maritime authorities.

When ships enter and leave ports, vital information concerning cargo, dangerous goods, crews, vessel details and other pieces of information have to be exchanged with the authorities ashore. Under the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL), public authorities are now required to set up systems for this to happen digitally.
