Trains take to the air with Antonov Airlines

[ July 1, 2020   //   ]

The Chinese city of Chengdu is in the process of building a high tech maglev railway system in which the trains, suspended by magnetic levitation, glide along without touching the tracks. However, to reach their workplace from the manufacturer in Munich, Germany, the new trains flew a good deal higher, on board one of Antonov Airlines’ AN-124-100 freighter aircraft.

The carrier recently completed the delivery of two Max Bögl TSB carriages, weighing 36 tonnes, from Germany to Chengdu Xinzhu Road & Bridge Machinery in cooperation with KN Airlift GmbH. It used special loading/offloading technology and equipment designed by Antonov Airlines and a bespoke lashing scheme was designed to secure the trains inside the aircraft.
