China to ban solid waste imports

China has announced legislation banning the import of solid waste by the end of 2020, reports the Ocean Network Express (ONE) shipping consortium. It applies to materials such as waste paper, plastics, metals and chemicals. Customs will order the return of shipment and fines may be imposed. ONE will stop accepting bookings of such cargo into China on all sailings with an estimated cargo arrival date of 15 November or later.
