World Cup host Qatar kicks off TIR

The TIR system is set to go live in Qatar, just ahead of the country’s hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. With Qatar, five out of six Gulf Cooperation Council member states are now running TIR. TIR allows goods to be shipped from one country to another in sealed load compartments that are controlled by customs via a multilateral, mutually recognised and UN-backed system. Qatar customs has launched a training programme in cooperation with the International Road Transport Union to train the agencies involved in the new procedures.
