Clever tech speeds Ipswich cargo
[ July 5, 2021 // Chris ]Associated British Ports (ABP) and BT are trialling Internet of Things (IoT) sensor technology to speed up the movement and processing of cargo through Ipswich. They have installed devices on cranes and transport equipment that capture, analyse and visualise data on BT’s Intelligent Asset platform to make the unloading and transportation of cargoes more efficient, in near real time.
The information includes a record of time, travel distance, routes taken, and weight of goods unloaded, allowing the port’s operational team to make rapid and more collaborative decisions- with customers.
The system also monitors periods of inactivity, underutilisation, and maintenance requirements.
