UK watchdog slates Asian airline merger plan
[ November 14, 2022 // Chris Lewis ]The UK’s Competition and markets Authority has found that a proposed merger between Korean Air and Asiana Airlines could lead to higher cargo rates. It said that the two carriers are the two main suppliers of direct cargo services between the UK and South Korea and, even taking into account the competition from indirect flights, competition after the merger would be reduced. CMA also pointed out that they are the only carriers operating direct passenger flights between London and Seoul and that the merger would risk higher prices and a reduced quality of service.
