DHL is automatic choice for fashion retailer

[ January 18, 2023   //   ]

DHL Supply Chain, the contract logistics specialist of Deutsche Post DHL Group, is operating a robot picking system at a logistics centre in Staufenberg, Lower Saxony for fashion retailer, Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf.

The 6,000sq m AutoStore system manufactured by Element Logic is one of the largest fully-automated storage and order fulfilment systems in Germany. It is located in one of the five 10,000sq m halls which DHL Supply Chain operates for a range of customers.

As well as Germany Peek & Cloppenburg also ships merchandise to end customers in Austria, Poland and the Netherlands from the centre, which also handles inbound new merchandise and returns, warehouses 3.5 million fashion items and carries out order picking and packing and shipping.

The AutoStore system fully monitors and controls inventory, enabling customer orders to be processed and shipped with greater speed and reliability and the modular robotics solution reduces throughput times for orders.

The basis of the system is a 16-level aluminium framework in which inventory is stacked and stored in 196,000 plastic bins from which 160 robots automatically pick each individual order. The goods are then further processed and prepared for shipping by human colleagues.
