CLdN launches Teesport route and adds Purfleet sailings
[ March 14, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]Short-sea and intermodal operator CLdN is to start new services from the European mainland to Teesport and expand its existing service to London (Purfleet).
It will initially operate four round trip sailings per week into Teesport, three from Zeebrugge and one from Rotterdam, from 18 March. CLdN has signed a long-term agreement with Teesport owner PD Ports, the UK’s fifth largest port with an onsite intermodal rail terminal offering two trains a day to Scotland.
Purleet meanwhile gains an additional three round trip sailings per week from Zeebrugge, giving 30% more capacity and increase the frequency to three departures in both directions on peak days.
With the expansion, customers will be able to place their cargo in one terminal in Zeebrugge and choose to ship to any one of CLdN’s terminals on the East coast of England: Purfleet, Killingholme (Humberside) or Teesport.
CLdN adds that the new Tees service “will be priced in such a way as to assist customers in developing new cargo flows”.
Chief executive, Florent Maes, commented: “Thanks to CLdN’s continuous investment in terminal infrastructure and an efficient RoRo fleet, we have the capability to respond rapidly to customer demand…We see this expansion as the next step in the on-going structural growth of the CLdN network.”
PD Ports’ chief executive, Frans Calje, added: “We’re absolutely delighted that we have been able to secure a contract of this nature to bring frequent vessel calls and volume into Teesport despite current circumstances.
“This is certainly a great boost for trade in the Tees Valley and we’re very much looking forward to working closely with the CLdN team and delivering the service excellence that our customer base expects.”
