Royal visit for DP World Southampton
[ July 17, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]The Princess Royal, in her capacity as Patron of international development organisation Transaid, visited corporate supporter DP World’s Southampton hub on 14 July.
During the visit, HRH saw DP World demonstrate a new pinning station which has been introduced to remove the need for staff to work near straddle carriers, as they remove twistlocks from containers prior to lifting – a major safety enhancement.
The Princess Royal also heard how in March the site had broken its record after exchanging 9,315 containers with a single ship in just 86 hours.
Port operations director at Southampton, Steve McCrindle, said: “It was fantastic to welcome The Princess Royal to our 100-hectare site in Southampton, where we’ve perfected the art of turning vessels around in double quick time.”
DP World began supporting Transaid earlier this year and is set to be the platinum sponsor for Transaid’s silver jubilee year.
