Rhenus expands car space as Germany turns importer
[ August 22, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]Rhenus Cuxport is expanding its area at the deep-sea port of Cuxhaven by about a third and has opened another terminal to increase trade car capacity.
The additional import space of about 11 hectares offers 4,500 car spaces, and will also be offered to industries such as onshore and offshore wind.
Cuxport says that with China alone exporting almost two million finished vehicles worldwide in the first half of 2023, Germany is changing from an export to an import market, which has resulted in increased demand for automobile handling at seaports.
Rhenus expects the extension to be completed by the end of September. In the long term, it is also planning to increase its the current six berths to nine.
