XPO launches Italy-Germany train
[ November 2, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]US-owned logistics company XPO has launched a multimodal route between Italy and Germany.
It uses rail for 900km (560 miles) from Domodossola to Duisburg, mainly to carry retail goods, food, and automotive components., saving about 1 ton of CO2 for each load carried.
XPO uses P400 semi-trailers, which are linked by GPS to a control tower that monitors operations in real time.
XPO also company currently operates multimodal routes between Barcelona and Bettembourg (Luxembourg); Barcelona and Duisburg; Perpignan and Valenton (south of Paris); Le Boulou and Calais ; and Novara (Italy) and Duisburg (Germany), as well as others using short sea shipping, such as those linking Santander and Liverpool.
