WEC Lines takes first reefers
[ February 19, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]WEC Lines is entering the refrigerated container market, adding its first batch of 50 45ft high-cube pallet-wide units to its fleet.
Demand for reefer containers has been rising steadily across various industries, including food & beverage, pharmaceuticals and healthcare.
The new 45ft refrigerated containers are all equipped with an electric cooling system to maintain precise temperature control within a range from -30ºC to +30ºC. All are equipped with one of the lowest power consuming machines in the industry and a refrigerant with a low GWP (Global Warming Potential).
WEC’s short sea vessels are already equipped with reefer plugs and sufficient reefer slots. In January, WEC Lines launched a new service between Agadir in Morocco, Portugal, Spain, and the UK as alternative for fresh produce importers to overland trucking.
The reefer containers will be included in rotations over coming months and WEC adds that it will most likely adding them to its deep sea operations.
