Dachser acquires food logistics firm and Fercam in Italy
[ April 9, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]Dachser is to acquire food logistics provider Brummer, a partner in the European Food Network for the transport of temperature-controlled food between Germany, Austria and neighbouring countries, for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition is subject to approval by the German and Austrian competition authorities.
Brummer owns a 40,000sq m facility for refrigerated and frozen food at Neuburg am Inn, Bavaria, and 45,000sq m of storage space at its location in St. Marienkirchen, Austria. It currently employs some 950 people. The company was one of the founding partners of the European Food Network in 2013, which spans 34 European countries under Dachser’s leadership.
Dachser meanwhile said it had completed its acquisition of the majority of the groupage and contract logistics divisions of Italian logistics company Fercam, after it acquired 80% of the shares in the joint venture Dachser & Fercam Italia.
Following a competition law review and approval by the European Commission in November 2023, Fercam began the process of carving out two of its business divisions—Distribution and Logistics, with almost 1,000 employees and 43 locations in Italy—from the rest of the company to form an independent organization for groupage and contract logistics operations in Italy. The joint venture started operations at the beginning of this year and, after a transition period, Dachser joined the company on 28 March and the purchase was completed.
In addition to 20 percent of the shares in the joint venture, Fercam fully retains Fercam Transport, Fercam Air & Ocean and Fercam Special Services.
