New programme aims to improve port resilience

A group of operators has launched the Climate Resilient Port Infrastructure (CLARION) project funded by has been launched, aimed at enhancing the sustainability and security of European ports in the face of climate change. It brings together a multidisciplinary team of 21 partners from 10 European countries, and will develop and implement innovative solutions to mitigate the impacts of climate change on port infrastructure.
It includes Rotterdam, Antwerp/Bruges and Hamburg – the top three container ports in Europe – and the largest European port in the Black Sea, Constanta,

Clarion will support modal shifts towards low-emission transport systems minimizing environmental impact. There will be ten pilot demonstrators to test advanced technologies including  smart quay walls, a monitoring system for the corrosion of port infrastructure, dredged sediment reuse, flood impact control, extreme weather forecasting.
