Deugro delivers giant ‘spaghetti’ for Italian cable firm

[ August 1, 2024   //   ]

The 3,300 tonnes of cables had to be delivered from Italian-owned Prysmian Powerlink’s manufacturing facility in Pikkala, Finland to meet the arrival of the cable-laying vessel Giulio Verne in the Dardanelles Strait. Deugro designed and delivered a complete turnkey, all-in-one service solution, including the provision of tank engineering and installation, spooling, relevant personnel and all related activities and equipment, in addition to the ocean transportation on the heavy lift vessel BBC Xingang.

The ship had to be modified to ensure the safe ocean transportation and smooth spooling of the cables including installation of static tanks and a conversion of its bow section, which were arranged at the port of Bremerhaven.
