[ December 17, 2024   //   ]

CMA CGM is to develop an electric barge solution for its operations in Vietnam. It will feature a 100% electric barge powered by batteries and a charging infrastructure powered by a new solar farm at the deep-sea terminal of Gemalink. The e-barge will transport goods between Binh Duong and Cai Mep, on a 180 km round trip, avoiding 778 tons of CO2 annually. CMA CGM is partnering with sportswear firm Nike to transport its products from Binh Duong Province to Gemalink. The e-barge is being co-designed by CMA CGM’s New Build and R&D teams in partnership with battery technology firm CATL and will transport over 50 000TEUs annually. It is expected to begin operations in 2026.
