Brighter future for refugees thanks to forwarder
[ December 18, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]Austrian global logistics company Gebrüder Weiss is transporting a solar energy system free of charge from Vorarlberg to northern Uganda for the Palorinya refugee settlement.
It forms part of the development and construction work by Catholic missionary Erich Fischnaller which includes providing young people with education. Until now, the workshops were powered by old, expensive and environmentally unfriendly diesel generators. Photovoltaic system manufacturers and electrical engineering companies from Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein have donated all the components needed for a high-performance photovoltaic system that generates up to 200 kilowatts of electrical energy.
The system will be packed into a 40-foot container and sent on its way before Christmas, first by by rail from Wolfurt to Rotterdam and then by ship to Mombasa (Kenya). The rest of the journey to Uganda will be by truck.
