DFDS reveals Jersey vessel plans
[ December 18, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]DFDS has confirmed that the Stena Vinga will operate on the route between Jersey and Portsmouth carrying both freight and passengers, from 28 March.
She will provide five rotations per week in peak season with evening departures from Jersey and morning departures from Portsmouth.
The 125-meter-long vessel, built in 2005, has a freight capacity of 1500 lane meters and can carry up to 400 passengers and 200 cars.
DFDS was named as preferred bidder for a 15-year contract to provide freight and passenger ferry services from the UK to Jersey while the neighbouring island of Guernsey has accepted a bid by incumbent operator Condor Ferries, now a wholly-owned subsidiary of French-owned Brittany Ferries, to operates its link from Portsmouth, It will replace the twin-island service currently operated by Condor.
DFDS will also deploy two high-speed craft on its new service between Jersey and Saint-Malo and Jersey and Poole.
The Levante Jet and the Tarifa Jet will operate up to 11 rotations a week between Jersey and Saint-Malo and up to five between Jersey and Poole.
The Levante Jet has up to 330 linear metres of cargo capacity, along with 675 passengers and 151 vehicles and can hit 37 knots. The Tarifa Jet can carry more than 750 passengers has capacity for 175 vehicles and can reach a maximum speed of 42 knots.
The Levante Jet was built in 2015, and the Tarifa Jet was built in 1997.
