CLdN to invest on the Humber
[ March 31, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]Short-sea operator CLdN has announced an investment plan for its Killingholme terminal. The project, which will be completed in the second half of 2026. will enhance cargo handling capabilities at and cater for projected volume growth on connections between Killingholme, Rotterdam and Zeebrugge.
CLdN’s terminal at Killingholme is situated on the river Humber, six miles south of Hull. It covers 100 hectares and has six deep-sea ro ro berths which handle 12 return sailings a week.
The work includes reconfiguring cargo handling operations to optimise the flow of freight through the terminal and increase in handling and storage capacity for trailers, containers, tank containers and refrigerated units.
CLdN has also invested in five electric rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to replace some of its existing diesel-powered reach stackers and reduce its carbon footprint by 5-10%.
CLdN recently completed a new access to its port in London and a renovation and expanded capacity in Liverpool.
Chief executive, Florent Maes, said: “Killingholme is an important hub connecting the North of England with mainland Europe and our ambition is to further grow this corridor in the coming years. The investment also demonstrates our drive to further decarbonise our port operations.”
