MEPs vote in aviation emissions law
[ April 4, 2014 // Chris ]MEPs voted in favour of a compromise deal reached with the member states at the beginning of March the EU’s Emissions Trading System (ETS) for aviation, despite its earlier rejection by the Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety on 19 March.
ETS will only apply to intra-EU flights, up to the end of 2016, with long-haul flights flying in and out of the European Economic Area (EEA) exempted until that date, by which time the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) should have reached a global agreement on an emissions trading system.
