A new US giant is born
[ December 9, 2013 // Chris ]Two of the largest US carriers have merged, with the completion of the deal between AMR Corporation – owners of American Airways – and US Airways Group. The new American Airlines will have a network with nearly 6,700 daily flights to more than 330 destinations in more than 50 countries and more than 100,000 employees worldwide. Under the deal, US Airways will exit Star Alliance on 30 March 2014 and will join oneworld.
In a latter to customers, the new carrier’s cargo president, Jim Butler, said that for the time being the two carriers will continue to operate as two separate airlines.”For the next several months, it will be business as usual for everyone with no changes to our operations. This complex integration is expected to last for quite some time and plans for integrating both airlines have already begun.,” he explained. The cargo team had been working for quite some time to deliver a seamless transition.
