A2B’s orange ships are its greenest yet
[ June 12, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]Short-sea operator A2B-online has ordered two multi-fuel methanol 650teu ships from the Sedef Shipyard in Turkey.
A2B says that they will reduce CO2 emissions by up to 95% and will have shore power and battery capacity to operate emission free during port and inland water operations.
They also offer double the capacity of existing vessels without increasing the overall length significantly.
A2B-online has developed the vessels together with Hamburg-based design and engineering company Technolog Services
The new vessels are part of a fleet revitalisation programme for A2B’s seven-strong fleet. and are expected to go into service by the end of 2024, between Moerdijk in the Netherlands and Immingham.
A2B-online chief executive Dinant de Jong said: “With our new vessels we will contribute to a more sustainable future and demonstrate that it is possible to combine freight transport and environmentally conscious operations.”
