ABP to build plasterboard plant in Newport

[ March 18, 2021   //   ]

Associated British Ports (ABP) will start construction in April of a plasterboard factory at Newport, which will help create around 60 new full-time jobs in the area.

Gypsum used in manufacture will be delivered by ship and will eliminate the need to transport raw materials from the port to an inland factory by road, which will help reduce CO2 emissions.

ABP group head of business development, Ralph Windeatt, said: “Port-centric manufacturing and distribution has the potential to reduce cost and carbon in our customers’ supply-chain by reducing the need for inland transport, additional handling and building a more sustainable supply chain at the centre of arterial transport networks. We believe that port-centric solutions will create opportunities for significant future investment and business growth around our ports.”
