ACL fleet makes the grade
[ May 24, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]The US Coast Guard has awarded a Qualship 21 certificate to Grimaldi-owned ACL’s entire fleet of container/ro ro vessels: Atlantic Star, Atlantic Sky, Atlantic Sail, Atlantic Sun and Atlantic Sea.
Qualship 21 demonstrates the highest level of compliance with international standards and US laws and regulations, for example by having no substandard vessel detentions in the US within the previous 36 months and having a successful US Port State Control safety exam within the previous 24 months
ACL says that the certification process for Qualship 21 is very demanding and has rigorous checklists that need to be passed and, as a result, very few vessels attain this status, let alone an entire fleet. Few if any carriers can boast of this achievement.
In his letter of certification to ACL, Brian Hall, chief of USCG’s Port State Control Division, said that less than 20% of all foreign-flagged vessels that operate in the US meet the strict eligibility requirements of this program, adding: “I applaud the efforts of your organization and the master and crew of the Qualship 21 designated vessels for consistently maintaining an exceptional commitment to quality.”
