Air broker teams up with university to woo new talent
[ August 31, 2022 // Chris Lewis ]UK based broker CharterSync is partnering with Coventry University to implement an annual 12-month university placement scheme to give opportunities for young people to enter the industry.
The scheme’s inaugural student, Martyna Rosak, is currently reading a BSc in Aviation Management at Coventry University, and will spend 12 months with CharterSync. The placement involves exposure to key aspects of the business, including new product development, air charter sales and operations, marketing and finance.
Rosak comments: “I was drawn to this placement with CharterSync, not just by a desire to develop my knowledge of the air cargo industry, but also by the team’s inherent enthusiasm and passion for what they do. It takes caring and driven people to both change the industry and carve out new opportunities for people like me for future growth.
“I have the chance to learn first-hand how cargo charter can be made more transparent and efficient through technology. The more I learn, the more I see how transformative this will be for the sector. It’s also really exciting to see the difference it makes for just-in-time areas of cargo.”
Ed Gillett, co-founder and director of CharterSync, says: “When pursuing my degree in Air Transport Management, I was often frustrated that the syllabus did not contain enough content on the air cargo sector, as well as the lack of opportunities to gain experience in air cargo and learn more by doing so.
“Provision of training opportunities and experience in air cargo will support the recruitment of new talent. Given air cargo’s importance within the aviation industry and to the global supply chain, we want to make a conscious effort at CharterSync to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals to consider a career beyond solely commercial aviation. It’s very important to expose the CharterSync team to fresh ideas so that we can continue innovating and challenging conventions.”
CharterSync has also newly appointed Louis Hicks, a graduate in Aviation Management from Coventry University, as a charter sales executive.
CharterSync has been working with Coventry University since 2020, when Gillett began giving guest lectures as part of the Aviation Management degree programme’s Airport Operations module. The 2023 placement scheme will be open to second-year university students reading relevant courses at UK higher-education institutions, and the company will begin accepting applications from 25 August to 31 December this year.
