Amber signal for East Mids rail hub

[ January 18, 2016   //   ]

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin has given the go ahead to the East Midlands Gateway Rail Freight Interchange, ignoring the advice of an independent planning committee which had recommended the 250-acre scheme should not go ahead. Opponents to the plan could however apply for a judicial review.
Developer Roxhill says that the new hub near East Midlands Airport would be able to handle 775m-long trains and would offer almost 560,000sq m of warehousing. However, one of the concerns of the independent committee was that not all warehouses would be rail-connected and the the alck of long term plans to improve rail capacity.
