…and plans 27-acre truck-holding park at Ashford

[ July 13, 2020   //   ]

The government is planning to set up a 27-acre holding area for trucks on the outskirts of Ashford, according to press reports. The site at Sevington on the A2070, close to junction 10a on the M20, had previously been earmarked for an Amazon warehouse.

It appears to be a replacement for the previously proposed holding site at Manston Airport, whose owner Riveroak Strategic Partners has just been given development consent to reopen as an operational airport.

The Sevington site, which has been codenamed Mojo by the government’s planners, would be brought into operation in the event of ‘Operation Brock’ holding areas on the motorways themselves becoming full and has been described as a temporary measure.

However, the Kent Online website reports that local MP Damian Green is strongly opposed to the plan.

The website also says that while Mojo is being built, custom checks will be carried out at the nearby the nearby Waterbrook Park industrial estate.

Ashford deputy council leader Paul Bartlett, who lives close to the Mojo site, says that surveyoars have already been seen at work.
