Antwerp reorganises rail routings
[ November 17, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]The port of Antwerp is to reorganise wagonload rail freight traffic from 1 January 2024, with a neutral operational model. It has also published the results of a tendering process, with rail operators allocated to specific areas. At present, says the port, deliveries of rail wagons are many and fragmented which dramatically increases costs and has a negative impact on the environment. Significant efficiency and sustainability gains can be achieved by bundling the delivery and collection of wagons within the port area with longer trains taking the place of many short ones.
