Beechwood exports set to grow in Rijeka
[ November 8, 2017 // Chris ]Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) in the Port of Rijeka in Croatia has launched an intermodal rail service connecting its terminals to one of the country’s largest wood producers.
The terminal operator has partnered with timber producer Cedar to facilitate the export of beech wood from its production facility in Vrbovsko.
Products are exported by sea from Rijeka to North Africa, Middle East, India and the Far East region via sea.
In 2012, Cedar acquired an 180,000sq m old saw mill in the west Croatian town of Vrbovsko which has become one of the largest and most modern beech wood manufacturing facilities in Europe.
The project also involved building a container yard at Vrbovsko and the purchase of container handling equipment such as reach stackers and automated container stuffing machines.
