BG goes for the max to Ireland
[ August 24, 2016 // Chris ]Peel Ports’ short-sea shipping arm BG Freight Line is to introduce four ‘Irelandmax’ container vessels onto its Irish Sea routes in 2018. The 13,250-tonne, 153m long ships, with a nominal capacity of 1004teu will be able to carry 488 45ft boxes in all positions. Odd-sized containers can also be stowed securely due to a new proprietary cargo stowage system. They will also have 253 reefer plugs.
They are being built by China’s Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard, and have been developed by BG Freight Line with ARKON Shipping as project initiator/commercial manager, technical managers Jüngerhans Maritime Services, and designers CIMC ORIC. They will fully comply with Emission Control Area (ECA) requirements with a modern wet scrubber system for exhaust cleaning and a modern two-stroke main engine will give very low fuel consumption, says the operator.
