BIFA boss calls for simpler insurance
[ March 25, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]British International Freight Association (BIFA) director general Steve Parker called on insurers to simplify processes to place and claim on cargo insurance.
At the Cargo Insurance London conference in London on 20 March, Parker said that a large amount of freight moves globally without insurance and that the association was regularly contacted by members after something untoward has happened to consignments. Often these were small to mid-sized corporate members, which might not have the resources to incorporate an insurance offer into the freight cost because the process is too complicated and long-winded for a small return.
Parker said: “We need a system that makes it easy for insurance cover to be included in the freight rate offered and the customer has to opt out rather than opt in. BIFA wants to see cargo insurance become the norm, not the exception.”
